Welcomed new guests
Marilyn Muehlbach moved to approve the minutes, and Georgia Donovan seconded approval.
Marilyn Muehlbach attended the city council meeting and thanked them for the grants given to us, past and present, and told them about BAC. She showed them the scrolling art on the website. Flyers and brochures were handed out to the members.
Christy Schroeder-Lloyd – BAC brochures and business cards are now available. Scripts for approaching a business for donations were passed out.
Margaret Owens – is the producer of Wide Open Walls.
The Sacramento Mural Festival was conceived in 2016 to activate spaces in alleyways and buildings throughout Sacramento. In 2017, it was transformed into Wide Open Walls and continues to create beautiful and exciting spaces for the region’s communities to enjoy. This year 43 artists are painting at Rosa Parks Elementary in Sacramento in May.
In the last eight months, Wide Open Walls has painted 8 different schools in the region, and the city would like them to paint all 70. Margaret is hoping to bring that same experience to schools in Blaine. Murals bring in tourism and business and inspire the students.
Sabrina Gomez-Vannelli, Artistic Director Day to Day Dance (DaytoDayDance.com)
Day to Day Dance Company has been serving the Blaine community since 2003. In 2009 they moved into the current location inside Cost Cutter. They offer classes for 3 years olds up to adults in Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Creative Movement, and Caregiver/Toddler. Private classes are an option upon request and availability. Mother Earth Dances will be performed at Blaine Performing Arts Center on May 13 and 14th. We were given a sneak peek of the upcoming performance.
BAC will have a booth at OysterFest, where we will hand out flyers and brochures and answer questions. There will be a spinning wheel with prizes for kids and dog treats for our furry friends. A signup sheet to volunteer at the booth was passed out.
Ken Owens walked us through the website and how to sign in, update your bio, upload photos, and more. Please send in any questions you have for him at info@BlaineArtsCouncil.org.
