Sierra James is a contemporary artist that pours her love of nature and people into her art, sharing it via film, graphics, resin, watercolor, oils, acrylics, and mixed media. Sierra was born near Bellingham, Washington, and attended both the University of Washington and Columbia University. She has been painting for over 20 years. She has spent 15 years living in the post-conflict nation of Timor-Leste in Southeast Asia fighting for child protection, gender equity, and violence prevention. For this work, she was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship for social entrepreneurship. Sierra’s artistic work covers a variety of media including producing film, graphic design, resin, watercolor, oils, acrylics, and mixed media. For her visual art pieces, she uses techniques including collaging, acrylic pouring, string pulling, blowing, heat torching, and painting. Her work has been exhibited in Blaine, Bellingham, Seattle, New York and Timor-Leste.
