Profile / Bio
I had a career as an art educator in Seattle Public Schools, a great job in which I got to work in many different media and share my love of art with my students. In my personal artistic life I have a background in traditional fine arts including figure drawing, sculpture, and painting. I love to learn new skills and art forms, and I love to experiment. In the last 20 years, painting and drawing, particularly watercolor and acrylic, and crafts, especially cedar weaving, have been favorites. I enjoy painting landscapes that reflect my love of the natural world in an evocative way.
In our early years in Blaine, my husband Ron Snyder and I, along with other artists, stated a series of art studio tours which lasted for about 7 years. (2005-2012? )
My personal art has been influenced by my experience as a member of a Tlingit/ Haida family. We participate in canoe journeys, have carved canoes, and have a dance group. I have been making regalia and props as well as performing with the group. I also created a series of paintings documenting some of my experiences. Our family also organized 2 canoe journeys to Blaine in 2015 and 2017. We will be traveling to Juneau to perform this June and also teaching and sharing at Camp Nor’Wester in the San Juan Islands in July.
It is wonderful to see such a vibrant art community coming together in Blaine. I look forward to participating!
